A fantastic experience from start to finish! The visitor centre is architecturally stunning—perfectly balancing a modern welcome space with a cozy spot for a drink. The tour flows seamlessly from an introductory history video to a guided walk through the production buildings, ending with a great tasting session. The guides are incredible, their passion and deep knowledge of both the Witchmark brand and the wider world of whisky are truly fascinating.    While the tour focuses primarily on the whisky distillation process (with interesting insights into how gin and vodka fit in), even a non-whisky drinker will find it captivating.

About Witchmark Distillery

Witchmark Distillery resides within the historic Fonthill Estate, nestled in the Wiltshire countryside. The distillery’s name is inspired by the medieval “witch marks” found on local stone buildings, adding a touch of historical intrigue. Situated in a Grade II listed barn, the distillery blends tradition with modern spirit production. Witchmark is dedicated to crafting premium English spirits, utilising the estate’s resources and pure, limestone-filtered water. They are producing high quality gins, vodka, and are on the way to producing English whisky.    Witchmark crafts its own neutral grain spirit, the foundation for their vodka and gin. Their vodka is produced to be smooth and versatile. Their gins are inspired by the surrounding landscape, incorporating carefully selected botanicals. A focus is placed on using local botanicals, including Juniper, where they are working with the charity Plantlife. This allows them to produce spirits that hold a distinct character, embodying the essence of their Wiltshire location.   Sustainability is a core principle at Witchmark. They employ various eco-friendly practices, including the use of solar energy and advanced heat recovery systems. By-products are repurposed, and they source barley from regenerative farming systems on the Fonthill Estate. Their packaging also prioritises minimal environmental impact. Witchmark’s commitment to sustainability reflects their dedication to producing exceptional spirits while minimising their ecological footprint.
