Feeling Festive on the Rhine

After our early morning pick ups we drive towards our Channel crossing and journey into Germany to our well appointed hotel in Rüdesheim. We make regular comfort stops en route.

After a leisurely breakfast you have the whole day to explore the beautiful town of Rüdesheim and enjoy the fabulous Christmas Market. Make sure you try some of the local wine in the many bars and restaurants in the town or if you wish to explore further afield why not jump on the train, with the railway station being close by.

After breakfast we take the scenic journey along the River Rhine to the historic Spa Town of Wiesbaden and enjoy the twinkling Christmas market stalls in the bustling town square, browse the crafts, gifts and try some of the wonderful seasonal foods and local wines. In the afternoon we enjoy a short visit to Mainz, known for its old town and timbered houses.

Today we offer an optional excursion through the Mosel Valley to Cochem, a lovely town whose foremost sight is the large Reichsberg Castle, rising high above the town. While Cochem, with its historic half-timbered houses and majestic Imperial Castle, is a true eye-catcher all year round, its residents go to great lengths just before Christmas to transform the town into an atmospheric winter fairy tale. £25

After breakfast we enjoy an excursion through the Rhine Valley to Boppard, the “Pearl” of the Rhine. Boppard is famous for its beautiful Rhine promenade and is situated in the valley of the Loreley. From Boppard we head to Koblenz to enjoy this famous Christmas Market. The festive stalls spread through the town in various locations and offer a good selection of gifts, arts and crafts, decorations, sweet treats, wine and food. Our return journey takes us on a spectacular train journey back to Rüdesheim.

Today, after breakfast we start our journey home, en route we make a stop at Aachen and enjoy a short visit to the Lindt chocolate factory shop and also the local biscuit factory shop – here you can get yourselves some gifts at factory prices. We then retrace our steps and continue home.

Hotel Lindenwirt is situated right in the middle of Rüdesheim in the middle of the Christmas Market. It does not get much more Christmassy than this. Timber-framed buildings with carved gazebos, open galleries overlooking the lovely courtyard, and the old lime tree create a unique backdrop for your holiday.
