MONDAY
After our local pick ups we enjoy a relaxing drive up through the stunning Wye Valley, making a stop at Tintern Abbey with an included entrance. Tintern Abbey is a national icon —still standing in roofless splendour on the banks of the River Wye nearly 500 years since its tragic fall from grace. It was founded in 1131 by Cistercian monks, who were happy to make do with timber buildings at first. Abbot Henry, a reformed robber, was better known for his habit of crying at the altar than for his architectural ambitions. Later we continue to our lovely hotel in picturesque Ludlow.
TUESDAY
This morning we visit the Cathedral City of Hereford, home to the magnificent Hereford Cathedral which houses the famous Mappa Mundi and Chained Library. We include a guided tour for you to learn more about this important part of British history. Afterwards enjoy free time to explore the historic centre, riverside walks along the Wye and a range of independent shops and cafes. This afternoon we visit Leominster, known for it's black and white buildings, traditional shops and stunning town centre.
WEDNESDAY
Today enjoy a full day at leisure in Ludlow, made even more enjoyable as today is Market Day, where the town centre comes alive with stalls selling local produce, crafts and gifts. Dominated by it's impressive Norman Castle, Ludlow boasts over 500 listed buildings, many in classic black and white Tudor style. Wander the medieval streets, browse the independent shops, or enjoy a visit to one of the many cafes, overlooking the beautiful River Terne.
THURSDAY
Today we enjoy a visit to Church Stretton, a historic market town situated in the heart of the South Shropshire hills on the English/Welsh border known as The Marches. The area is renowned worldwide for its geology, with some of the oldest rock formations in existence. Later we visit Stokesay Castle, one of England's finest and best preserved medieval fortified manor houses, set in the tranquil Shropshire countryside, explore the timber framed gatehouse, great hall and surrounding grounds.
FRIDAY
Today we start our journey towards home, making a relaxing stop at Hay-on-Wye, known as the "Town of Books," offers a unique blend of literary culture, stunning landscapes, and vibrant local activities. We arrive home late afternoon.
