The Helix: Home of the Kelpies covers over 350 hectares of green space between Falkirk and Grangemouth. The Helix includes the Plaza Cafe, the lagoon, woodland and wetland areas and miles of pathways. The jewel in The Helix project is The Kelpies - the World's largest equine sculptures, standing at 30 metres tall and weighing over 300 tonnes each. There is also a Visitor Centre which contains a cafe, a gift shop and toilet facilities. This evening we enjoy live entertainment after dinner.
THURSDAY (NEW YEAR'S EVE)
After breakfast we enjoy a visit to Abbotsford House and Gardens. Abbotsford, where Sir Walter Scott became the biggest-selling author of his day and the fashion for Scots Baronial architecture began. The rooms visitors can discover at Abbotsford were left, after his death, just as Scott kept them and are packed full of the fascinating items he collected. Amongst them is one of the best examples in the world of an 19th Century writer’s personal library. Listen to the free audio guide as you walk through the rooms to experience all the historic house has to offer. Sir Walter Scott’s imagination and creativity extended beyond the walls of his house into the outdoors and the creation of beautiful formal Regency gardens. Later we return to our hotel and enjoy a delicious Scottish Cream Tea. Your Hogmanay evening starts with a piper and a welcome drink of Prosecco before the Hogmanay Gala Ball commences with a four course menu and live music from a Scottish band. Ring in the bells with a toast drink and traditional piper before hot stovies are served. Dress code is black tie/formal.
FRIDAY (NEW YEAR'S DAY)
After a leisurely breakfast today with a twist, we offer an optional excursion to The Pitlochry New Year Street Party. If you're looking for a lively and unforgettable experience, the Pitlochry New Years Day Street Party is the perfect choice. This annual event has become a beloved tradition in the Scottish town, drawing visitors from far and wide to celebrate the start of a New Year in true Scottish style. Taking place in the picturesque town of Pitlochry, the New Years Street Party offers something for everyone. Whether you're looking to dance the hangover away, indulge in delicious food and drink, or simply soak up the festive atmosphere, you won't be disappointed. OPTIONAL EXCURSION £20 Evening entertainment after dinner.
SATURDAY
Today we visit the Scottish capital, Edinburgh. There’s no shortage of attractions, such as Calton Hill which is home to Edinburgh’s most prominent monuments, the National Museum of Scotland and the Scotch Whisky Experience. Edinburgh Castle is a must-see, with the oldest parts of the complex dating back to the 11th century. Why not wander down the famous Royal Mile or Princes Street or simply just admire the architecture in this beautiful city. Perhaps also take advantage of the last of the Christmas Markets.
SUNDAY
After breakfast today it is sadly time to leave Scotland and start our journey towards home. We make regular comfort stops en route, arriving back home mid evening.
